I came to One to 1 because I wanted to get back into shape after having major back surgery. I was doing really well with just walking 4-5 miles a day, but wanted to strengthen my core. I tried doing exercise DVD’s on my own, but found I was having a lot of back pain following due to perhaps not using proper form. I wanted to get a personal trainer that would instruct and watch me to be sure I was doing my exercises properly and not causing stress and possible damage to my back.
I have been having great results since signing up in October. I have lost 19lbs and 15inches. It might not sound like a lot to some, but I feel AMAZING and I am really enjoying fitting into smaller clothes and look forward to gaining even more strength and loosing more weight. Since my surgery I’ve lost 42lbs I really feel I have more energy and self confidence. I know that weight loss is a process and cannot happen fast. Usually if it does, it won’t be long term because it wasn’t done right. It took time to put on and it will take time to take off!
When I have tried other programs or gyms I have found that I was less successful because I didn’t feel a true sense of caring from my trainers and the staff at the gym. I wasn’t even wanting to enter this contest or post on Facebook. After I did some thinking, I thought it was necessary to give someone out there some HOPE and give credit where credit is due.

My name is Larry Hermary and I’m 44 years old. I’ve been overweight since the age of 6. I’ve tried every diet out there from the “banana diet” to the “cabbage soup diet” and every pill and potion you can think of and nothing worked for me. The very word “diet” scared me.
I did have success at one point in my life at the age of 17 when I exercised and reduced what I ate, so I knew the concept did work, but for me I couldn’t put it all together and I was running out of time and options.
If One to 1 Fitness didn’t work for me, my next step was doing something drastic like “gastric bypass surgery”. I’ve watch those shows like “My 600-lb Life” thinking “that’s going to be me soon if I don’t do something quick!”
I remember meeting Pat Kerr for the first time and how he made me feel at ease and welcome and gave me HOPE! When my wife, Alida and I, first sat down with him, I told him of all my fears and my hang-ups. I not sure if he knew what he was in for, but he took up the challenge.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always related people I know to famous people. My mom reminded me of the country singer Tammy Wynette and an aunt of actress Elizabeth Taylor. To get a sense of who Pat is like, he reminds me of Chris Powell, the host and trainer of the show “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition”. Pat’s knowledge of the human body, training, nutrition and psychology is second to none. He out-rivals most doctors, for that I know for certain.
That man has NEVER judged me, not once! Even when I cheated on eating, cheated on exercise or cheated on me because I wanted to give up! He’s always positive, kind, supportive and there for me! He’s not only a great friend, but even more like a brother to me that I’ve never had. He even came to my step-father’s funeral without me knowing he was coming. Who does that! Pat has a personal and in-depth relationship with his clients than just his business!
I started at One to 1 Fitness at over 407 lbs. It’s hard to know for sure what I started at as my scale wouldn’t go that high and be that accurate. Alida thought it was higher, but I’m not certain for sure. I work out 4-5 days a week, 2 days with Pat and 2-3 days on my own. Nutrition for me has been the hardest to navigate, but it’s the most important aspect of losing weight. Like I said the word “diet” is scary for me, so I had to change my thinking around that
and to realize that it doesn’t mean starving yourself, but really means what you eat. However you are not alone as the trainers there help you to put all aspects of your weight loss all together and come up with a plan to meet your goals and needs.
Today, I’m at 305 lbs. Also health issues that were a problem like shortness of breath, tired all the time, no energy and pain-full knees are way better! My mind is more at ease too as I don’t get stressed out as often, able to cope with stress and anger easier as I’m in a better place now.I still have a long ways to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel where it was pretty dark before.
