The Endless Cycle

The Endless Cycle

Picture this with me…

It is Sunday night.. wait let’s take a step backwards (I feel like one of those top movie exec’s using flashbacks…)

It’s the Monday before the aforementioned Sunday

You had spent all weekend getting prepared to tackle your goals!

Grocery Shopping, preparing lunches for the week, buying a new workout top (because let’s be serious, when we look good we feel good!)

Monday morning comes… we close our eyes and hop on the infamous scale…

We had spent all of Sunday thinking about it and preparing for the worst!

Luckily, you prepared for far worse…

During the week you go to the gym everyday,

You eat all of your packed foods at work,

You avoid the late night snacking,

and you get to Friday!

Unfortunately, this is where things go downhill…

You and your spouse have been invited over to your friends,

Your kids are playing in what seems like every arena and field in the city,

You want to see that new chick flick at the theatre…

You do your best but… you start to make compromises

Just a little bit of popcorn…

Just 1 drink (which turns into 2, 3…)

Then Sunday night comes…

You remember that you promised yourself you’d step on the scale on Monday morning…

You start recounting the weekend activities… thinking…

“What’s the point?”

“I probably gained anyways”

Slowly rationalizing why you shouldn’t get on the scale.

Monday comes… You decide you don’t want to start your week off negatively…

But here is where things start to go downhill… Your brain now knows it is okay to rationalize… or better yet…

YOU DO!

So your week starts to slip… and you start to slip into old habits…

You are back in the Endless Cycle…

Seems like a bleak outlook but I have heard this story so many times…

Over the past 5 years of coaching individuals just like this I wanted to write this to help more people get through it.

So here’s the deal… Here’s what you need to be mindful if this happens to you!

1. Set Your Goals – Not just what # you want to be or what size of clothing you want to get into… WHY do you even want this change? What changes about you or about your life that makes all of this worthwhile??? Once you figure that out… write it down. When your motivation lacks… go read that piece of paper.

2. Setting a Plan – Sounds easy? It really is BUT too many times we don’t plan for the worst! Why did the person above have a bad weekend? They didn’t plan for it. Be realistic and honest about your life. Then plan for it! Plan for the absolute worst 🙂

3. Accountability – Add layers of accountability to your journey. Did you know the likelihood of you achieving your goal goes up if you tell someone else your goals? Why? Because you will feel bad if they ask and you’ve given up. The scale, measuring tape, and progress pictures work the same way. They keep you accountable to the process. Even if you had a bad week make sure you keep to your layers of accountability… they are there to do just that! And if the scale does go up… Reset, Replan, and Attack!

4. Support – Find support for the journey. Whether that is a friend, family members, colleagues, or you hire a coach. The journey won’t always be perfect… having someone to talk to about it can make all the difference in you continuing or not!

Use these 4 Steps to successfully stop the Endless Cycle and finally get the results YOU DESERVE!
