I decided to try One to 1 Fitness through one of their promotional offers and was hooked after the first bootcamp!! I needed a change in my workout routine, and I get that on a daily basis at One to 1. Since I have joined (6months ago) I have gained so much strength. It was a struggle to do a few pushups in a row, now they are no longer the most hated exercise. I recently decided to put myself to the challenge to clean up my eating habits and in 5 weeks through clean eating and regular bootcamps I
have lost 8cm and have gained more knowledge of the power of healthy eating habits! One to 1 is the first program I have tried and I believe it is successful because of the support available. I came to One to 1 because I wanted to get back into shape after having major back surgery. I was doing really well with just walking 4-5 miles a day, but wanted to strengthen my core. I tried doing exercise DVD’s on my own, but found I was having a lot of back pain following due to perhaps not using proper form. I wanted to get a personal trainer that would instruct and watch me to be sure I was doing my exercises properly and not causing stress and possible damage to my back.
I have been having great results since signing up in October. I have lost 19lbs and 15inches. It might not sound like a lot to some, but I feel AMAZING and I am really enjoying fitting into smaller clothes and look forward to gaining even more strength and loosing more weight. Since my surgery I’ve lost 42lbs 🙂 I really feel I have more energy and self confidence. I know that weight loss is a process and cannot happen fast. Usually if it does, it won’t be long term because it wasn’t done right. It took time to put on and it will take time to take off!
When I have tried other programs or gyms I have found that I was less successful because I didn’t feel a true sense of caring from my trainers and the staff at the gym. I’ve also found that diets recommended were not in the like with long term success and more in line with winning a challenge. My trainer Sarah has been very good at working with me and my diet. She is always patient and understanding with all of my questions. She gives great guidance and encouragement even if I slip up. She is an amazing trainer.
I would absolutely recommend One to 1 to others. The reason is because it is a smaller gym with staff who truly care about the clients and their successes. All the staff are friendly and willing to talk to you and answer any questions you might have. The service you get at One to 1 is very personalized and the staff truly want to see everyone succeed!
I was 223lbs and needed a life change, to better myself and my growing family! So far I have lost 50lbs 🙂 I have gained so much energy and have such a better out look on life. My strength has improved drastically and my body is becoming toned! My life choices have changed as well, for example I am now a non smoker, and maybe have a couple alcoholic beverages every couple of weeks! Other diets and programs I have tried promise so much with so little actual results. At One to 1 I felt immediately comfortable with the friendly staff, and the trainers helped me make the right choices for my health. “I had moved to Red Deer earlier in the year (2014) and fell off the fitness bandwagon I was previously on. I tried Crossfit for my first 7 months in RD, but got discouraged and never felt accountable and didn’t enjoy going to the gym. So I guess this all started in December of 2013 when I was tired of who was looking back at me in the mirror. My first Bootcamp trainers were Sarah Vaartsta and Josee —-? I These trainers ended up being one of the main reasons I would continue to go, they were super patient and considerate as I had never considered a squat being an exercise at that time, and seemed to understand the struggles that come with a huge change I was undertaking regarding exercise and diet. Not that I even owned a scale at the time but my weight was somewhere between 230-240lbs, Pant size 38, shirt XL. Over the last year I’ve spent a pile of money on new clothes, months would go by and clothes wouldn’t fit again!
I’m down to 204 lbs now, in size 34 pants (which I can’t wear without a belt) I can’t remember feeling this good ever, I love riding my bike I used to just look at before, and I beat my buddies down the ski hill all day long!
I’ve arrived at boot camp in not a great mood, but have never left there that way, its something I look forward to now.

“My reason for choosing a personal trainer is that I wanted to lose weight but was not successful at it with everything else I’ve tried. My reason for choosing One-to-1 Fitness was the friendliness of staff when inquiring about facilities. I started just over 2 years ago and was placed with Whitney. Since having my children 17 (ish) years ago my weight was always up and down. I would get upset with myself so I would start eating right and exercising working hard to get to a point when I thought I looked good and felt better, then BAM, I would start filling my face and missing workouts. Up and down I went for many years. I felt like I needed to be accountable to someone other than myself, so that’s when I made the choice to join One to 1 fitness in October 2011 because at that point I had gained AGAIN! Going from 211 pounds (with 22.7% body fat) to 188 pounds (with 12.9% body fat). Over the course of my weight loss, people have said I could have just gone to the gym to achieve the same results. My response is yes, I could have gone to the gym, done the same exercise for a month or two, become discouraged and then stop altogether. It has happened before. With the help of my trainer Sarah Vaartstra, it didn’t happen this time. Sarah started me out with one on one workouts and helped coach me on technique (think about picking up a loonie without your hands). She also advised me on my caloric intake and percentage breakdowns of my meal plan. I would have been lost if I had been doing these things on my own. I joined One to 1 Fitness because I was looking to loose a few pounds before my wedding and was also looking for a new gym after my other place closed down. I wasn’t even wanting to enter this contest or post on Facebook. After I did some thinking, I thought it was necessary to give someone out there some HOPE and give credit where credit is due.
You see, I didn’t come to One to 1 Fitness because I was overweight, I came here because I
I had no HOPE!
My name is Larry Hermary and I’m 44 years old. I’ve been overweight since the age of 6. I’ve tried every diet out there from the “banana diet” to the “cabbage soup diet” and every pill and potion you can think of and nothing worked for me. The very word “diet” scared me.
I did have success at one point in my life at the age of 17 when I exercised and reduced what I ate, so I knew the concept did work, but for me I couldn’t put it all together and I was running out of time and options.
If One to 1 Fitness didn’t work for me, my next step was doing something drastic like “gastric bypass surgery”. I’ve watch those shows like “My 600-lb Life” thinking “that’s going to be me soon if I don’t do something quick!”
I remember meeting Pat Kerr for the first time and how he made me feel at ease and welcome and gave me HOPE! When my wife, Alida and I, first sat down with him, I told him of all my fears and my hang-ups. I not sure if he knew what he was in for, but he took up the challenge.
Since I was a kid, I’ve always related people I know to famous people. My mom reminded me of the country singer Tammy Wynette and an aunt of actress Elizabeth Taylor. To get a sense of who Pat is like, he reminds me of Chris Powell, the host and trainer of the show “Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition”. Pat’s knowledge of the human body, training, nutrition and psychology is second to none. He out-rivals most doctors, for that I know for certain.
That man has NEVER judged me, not once! Even when I cheated on eating, cheated on exercise or cheated on me because I wanted to give up! He’s always positive, kind, supportive and there for me! He’s not only a great friend, but even more like a brother to me that I’ve never had. He even came to my step-father’s funeral without me knowing he was coming. Who does that! Pat has a personal and in-depth relationship with his clients than just his business!
I started at One to 1 Fitness at over 407 lbs. It’s hard to know for sure what I started at as my scale wouldn’t go that high and be that accurate. Alida thought it was higher, but I’m not certain for sure. I work out 4-5 days a week, 2 days with Pat and 2-3 days on my own. Nutrition for me has been the hardest to navigate, but it’s the most important aspect of losing weight. Like I said the word “diet” is scary for me, so I had to change my thinking around that
and to realize that it doesn’t mean starving yourself, but really means what you eat. However you are not alone as the trainers there help you to put all aspects of your weight loss all together and come up with a plan to meet your goals and needs.
Today, I’m at 305 lbs. Also health issues that were a problem like shortness of breath, tired all the time, no energy and pain-full knees are way better! My mind is more at ease too as I don’t get stressed out as often, able to cope with stress and anger easier as I’m in a better place now.I still have a long ways to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel where it was pretty dark before.
I’d like give thanks where is is surely deserved. Without their help, I would not be where I am today.
