Most of us would like to change something physically about ourselves, often this means weight loss or fat loss. As a weight loss consultant in Red Deer we see a real dramatic increase of new people in September. Believe it or not September is one of the biggest months of the year for new fitness programs. As people return from family holidays and the kids get settled back into school this becomes a time for people to try to recreate old habits and routines.
As we begin our endeavour of change we are generally looking for the best product or service to help us lose weight and reach our goal. There is certainly no shortage to choose from, from nutritional coaching, exercise coaching, detoxification coaching, pre made meals, to exercise products there is a lot to choose from. Each of these products or systems guarantees success and presents wonderful testimonials; of course even we do at One-to-1 Fitness. Now we could discuss many of the more popular products and systems for losing weight and rate them on which provide better value, or would be the most effective, etc but even with all that aside there is one very specific determining factor that will impact any choice you make. That factor is you, and whether you have made a mental commitment for change.
Usually when we’re excited about starting something we dive in thinking we’re committed, but that isn’t always the case. We start to immediately cut corners, or resist instruction that encourages the habits needed to be successful. A simple truth, if you are looking at any fitness product or service, even the one I would consider the worst product on the market you could experience the promised success if you only followed the plan to the absolute letter. Most of us though will eliminate little things, maybe have that little extra snack, skip a meal or skimp on the exercise by the last five minutes thinking that these little short cuts won’t dramatically affect the outcome. Unfortunately this is not usually the case. If you are someone that has traditionally struggled at all from achieving the results you want, even the slightest deviation is likely to unravel any success you might experience. We have seen this first hand with our personal training clients, particularly when it comes to nutritional coaching. It’s not easy to adjust your nutritional ratios from what you have been doing for a long time. Many people convince themselves if they work out harder it will make up for the nutritional short cuts. Statistically we find that if you commit 110% within the first two weeks of starting a new fitness and nutritional program you are nine times more likely to reach your goal. Those that don’t commit immediately often struggle for months, some just give up or they finally have that “ah, ha” moment with their trainer and then make miraculous change.
When starting any new fitness program or using any weight loss product it’s critical that you bring your mental game, write down your goals and affirm yourself that you are willing to make an absolute commitment for a designated period of time to reach your goal. Commit to standing on your head, or attempting to walk on water if necessary for the first two weeks. If you do this, you will never be disappointed.
